VANS WARPED TOUR 2011: 3OH!3 Returns to Roots Before Working on New LP

It sounds like an oxymoron, but 3OH!3 is beginning to wind down by playing some dates on Vans Warped Tour.

“We’re kind of reaching the end of our cycle for this record (Streets of Gold),” Nathaniel Motte told me at Vans Warped Tour last week. “We’re going to take some time off, and kind of recuperate. And then, we’ve been working progressively on a lot of material and I’m excited to get time off, get some head space, and go right in to making a new record, I think it’ll be fun.”

Motte and partner-in-crime Sean Foreman are creating that LP in Colorado and California, with some past and new collaborators. To hold fans over, the band recently released “Robot” – complete with a music video premiere on Will Ferrell’s “Funny or Die” website. The song will also serve as another to add to the duo’s Warped Tour set list. Unlike previous years, 3OH!3 only joins the summer festival for about two weeks this time.

“It’s kind of like a nice chunk of it before you start getting a little bit sick of parking lots and get sun stroke,” Foreman semi-joked. “Honestly, we’ve loved doing it in years past. It’s just this year, we’re going to try and take some time off the road and get some writing done.”

Motte echoed similar sentiments about the tour, which 3OH!3 found success on before “Don’t Trust Me” became a chart-topping hit.

“It kind of breaks down that barrier between fans and bands,” noted Nat. “We’ve had some of our better shows on this tour and so it just made sense.”

3OH!3’s last date on Warped is July 23 in Uniondale.
