AUDIO: Kelly Clarkson Taken Aback at Fans’ Continued Love for ‘Miss Independent’

Kelly Clarkson has sold over 20 million albums and over 30 million singles worldwide. Yet back in November when she performed at the American Music Awards, it wasn’t one of her three number one hits that people were buzzing about during her medley, nor was it her handful of platinum singles. Rather, it seemed everyone in the “Twitterverse” and who approached Clarkson afterward just wanted to talk about the 2003 song, “Miss Independent.” And this wasn’t the first time this has happened – thus the reason a live rendition of the track is included on her Greatest Hits: Chapter 1 album.

“Isn’t that funny?” remarked Clarkson when it was brought up during a November interview on “The Ralphie Show.” The audio aired for its first time on Thursday. “Everybody that has been talking to me has been like, ‘Oh my God, I totally forgot about ‘Miss Independent.’ That was my jam in high school!’”

Of course then Clarkson is not-so-subtly reminded that the song was released almost 10 years ago. But the times are-a-changin’. Perhaps she is still “Miss self-sufficient,” but Clarkson will also soon be “Mrs. Brandon Blackstock,” as she and her manager’s son were engaged just a few days before Christmas.
