INTERVIEW: Kelly Clarkson Asked To Perform At ‘AMAs’

After a rousing medley of her greatest hits last year, Kelly Clarkson revealed to “The Ralphie Show” that producers of the “American Music Awards” have asked her back to perform this year.

“I want to perform,” Clarkson said. “We’re trying to figure out what we’re going to do because I’m dropping a Christmas album so we’re just trying to figure out how that’s going to work out.”

The “Idol” winner’s first ever holiday LP, Wrapped In Red, hit shelves October 29. The AMAs take place November 24.

“I don’t know what we’re going to end up doing,” Clarkson added. “I should be there doing something so, we’re figuring that out this week.”

The “Miss Independent” singer is working on plotting a number of different events on personal and professional levels, from pending nuptials with fiancé Brandon Blackstock to the possible release of two more albums next year.

“We have almost a full pop album, and then also we have a ton of country stuff for the country album as well,” Clarkson explained. “We’re trying to figure out a game plan for that because there’s a lot going on.”

That might be a bit of an understatement. Clarkson is also still looking to collaborate with someone for the pop album; she already has the song and needs a partner to complete the duet. I suggested Miguel, who Clarkson heaped high praise on last year at The GRAMMYS. The “Adorn” star told me in May that he would love to hop in the studio with her.

“He has that kind of voice that can sing anything,” Clarkson said regarding the possibility of linking with Miguel. “My label loved me. I didn’t realize he was on my label!”

The fact that the two share a home in RCA Records could make the duet even more of a possibility. The only “pop” act that the singer has ever worked with is fellow “Idol” alum Chris Daughtry. Besides him, Clarkson has only shared a song with country acts, including her fiance’s stepmom on the new Christmas LP.

“There’s so many cool moments on (the album) but I will say, recording in the studio with Reba (McEntire) and Trisha Yearwood for ‘Silent Night,’ Clarkson responded when asked about the song she enjoyed the most from the forthcoming album. “That was pretty fricken cool. That was a total dream come true from my youth.”
