On Monday morning, “Live! with Regis and Kelly” released their list of the Top 100 Men of Radio in conjunction with the show’s search for five men to co-host the show for a day with Kelly Ripa. There were no divisions based on radio stations or market size – I was contending against every radio personality from coast to coast, and in to Canada – Howard Stern to Seacrest to Elvis Duran. Yet, go ahead and look, I’m there.
First of all, words cannot express my gratitude to the outpouring of support I received when I first asked for people’s assistance in this. I don’t work for the accolates, but the love doesn’t hurt. So, thank you.
And yes, this is far from over – and very much still an up-hill battle from here – voting begins January 10.
I appeared on CNN Headline News “Prime News” with Vinnie Politan to commentate about a number of topics, from a woman locked up for overdue library books to a man claiming he wasn’t drunk driving, he was blind.
Thanks to Mark Goldman of Goldman and McCormick PR.
As if a new Max Martin-produced single, a hit TV show, and an upcoming headlining tour weren’t enough for Miranda Cosgrove, the 17 year-old is simultaneously preparing for what may be the biggest task of all: college.
“I’m kind of leaning toward (University of Southern California) for two years, (New York University) for two years – that’s the ultimate dream,” revealed Cosgrove on “The Ralphie Radio Show” of her collegiate aspirations. “It’d be nice just to like, get kind of used to college and still be by my family and then, take a big leap and go to New York.”
Cosgrove is filling out applications in between radio shows and other professional commitments. As an alumnus of Syracuse University – I wondered who Cosgrove would tab to write her letters of recommendation… perhaps a label mate at Columbia Records?
“That would be so cool… I’m going to do that after this!” Cosgrove joked after I suggested specifically she text Columbia’s Lee Leipsner and inquire if he could put in a good word with Steven Tyler. “(I’ll get) all of Aerosmith.”
—
“Let’s see… Yale, Berkeley,” she listed, in addition to of course the aforementioned USC and NYU. “I don’t know why, going in, I thought you just had to write one really major essay.”
Cosgrove will have plenty of time to both write essays and grow accustomed to being away from home next year, when she kicks off her “Dancing Crazy Tour” – a 22 date trek that kicks off in Kansas City on January 24. YouTube star turned “Ellen” show sweetheart Greyson Chance will serve as the opening act for the show, which wraps February 24 in Anaheim.

“I’m excited – this is my first time on a bus,” Cosgrove noted. “I think I’m going to bring one of my best friends with me and my mom, so it’s gonna be really cool.”
The “Kissin U” singer is no stranger to traveling – she recently returned from Sweden where she collaborated with super-producer Martin (Britney Spears, Pink… everyone on the radio). The visit overseas yielded the title track for this upcoming tour.
“It’s called ‘Dancing Crazy’ so it’s a really fun song. I kind of just wanted to do a song that like, people could just drive around with their tops down and just put it on and have a really good time.”
Ironic given that Cosgrove doesn’t have her driver’s license yet – but good luck penciling that in to her schedule.
“Live! With Regis and Kelly” already conducted a Women of Radio search – with the five winners each getting the opportunity to co-host with Regis Philbin for a day. Now, the show is looking for male radio broadcasters to co-host with Kelly Ripa.

Enter me, and you, hopefully.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This would certainly be a career highlight and a dream come true to end up on National TV – a show my Mom watches religiously! I appreciate your help and time – and most importantly, your support of “The Ralphie Radio Show”!
Last Tuesday, Apple announced that the company’s iTunes store would begin selling the full catalogue of The Beatles. The “Fab Four” were one of the few major acts that still withheld their music from being sold on-line in both a single and album capacity.
“I think that it was inevitable,” Shinedown’s Brent Smith said about the move last week. Smith’s band performed an acoustic show at the Scranton Cultural Center. “Kid Rock’s still not though. He’s holdin’ it down!”
—
Shinedown lead singer Brent Smith talked about the band’s elaborate acoustic tour, album re-releases, and more on “The Ralphie Radio Show.”
The band will soon be releasing a deluxe version of The Sound of Madness, complete with a live DVD.
—
“You have to remember, bands like AC/DC, and The Beatles for that matter, they started back when it was a record. I think there’s a level of honor in it for them, especially being in the business as long as they have been.”
Shinedown is readily available digitally – and just re-released The Sound of Madness with bonus tracks and a live DVD. The band’s third LP spawned the hits “Second Chance” and “If You Only Knew.”
It seems these days, most Disney stars start on the small screen, transition to the big screen, make a sharp right for the recording studio, and then find themselves on TMZ.com. Mitchel Musso is attempting to break the trend – so far, so good.
“A lot of those little teen celebrities, they want to be on TMZ,” Musso insisted. The “Hannah Montana” star called in to “The Ralphie Radio Show” to promote his second LP, Brainstorm, which hits Wal-Mart shelves this Monday. “They live for that stuff. People you see on it probably want it.”
Musso’s perspective differs from the other idea that celebrity blogs like TMZ are prying in to people’s personal space. The actor/singer suggests the exact opposite: the stars are opening their lives for gossip blog consumption.
“TMZ doesn’t just walk up to me and start talking to me. They go, ‘Hey Mitch, mind if we ask you a couple questions?’” explained Musso. “And I’m like, ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ Most of the time, I’ll be like, ‘Yo man, I’d rather not, but I’ll talk to you (instead of the camera).’”
—

During our 10 minute chat, Musso had no qualms talking about the latest in his life: from the end of Disney’s “Hannah Montana” to the reasoning behind releasing his new album exclusively at Wal-Mart.
“Yunno I just signed off on being my own label, I’m so excited, you have no idea,” the newly independent Musso told me. “But overall, just being able to go off and do my own thing and having Wal-Mart come to the door and say they want to do ‘this, and this, and this’… of course!”
The 19 year-old certainly sees where the record business is headed, with the consolidation and no promises from a major label that you’ll even be able to release a full album. This made Musso more apt to go independent while jumping at the chance to have a large national retail store promote his music.
And that’s a trend that he clearly doesn’t mind following.
Apparently a 30 second clip of this song leaked on to the Internet a while ago, with the full version just hitting a couple of music blogs I check on the regular yesterday.
Off all the MJ songs to be released since his death, this one certainly has the most authentic feel to it – you could picture Jackson dancing and moonwalking to this one on stage.
A version of this song also hit the net yesterday with a verse from Jay-Z, however research determined that the bars from Jay in question were actually lifted from a different Jay-Z song, “Wishing On A Star.”
The above song is not on the track listing for Michael, due out next month.
TMZ’s Nicki Fertile said that it was Demi Lovato’s punching of a back-up dancer that led to her self-admittance to a treatment center to cope with the bullying she’s suffered as a child.
