“Hotel Impossible” entered season three on Monday. The Travel Channel series will follow Anthony Melchiorri around the world as he takes hospitality business owners to task on their practices and procedures. The show will also feature a stop at Seaside Heights, NJ, where Melchiorri will help get four hotels and a beach back up and running.
The executive and TV personality stopped by “The Ralphie Show” to talk about this new season of “Hotel Impossible.” It airs Mondays at 10 PM on Travel Channel.
Jason Derulo is living out his dream. In a relatively short amount of time, the singer has gained international fame with some of the most infectious hits heard on the radio. Derulo has sold over 11 million singles in the US alone, and is set to release his third studio album Tattoos on October 8.
But in the States, there can be drawbacks to making it big, especially when it’s in the public spotlight. Derulo dates another public figure, singer Jordin Sparks, and recently found himself look at photos of a new house he bought… on a gossip website.
“That’s like where I live, and you’re posting it to the whole world. It’s like, ‘Alright, cool,’” said Derulo during an interview on “The Ralphie Show.” While he is accustomed to media coverage surrounding his music, the idea of his personal life (and space) in the spotlight is one that Derulo is becoming acclimated with. “It just comes with the territory. More and more, I’m seeing the blogs and the tabloids talking more about my personal things and making up things but, it is what it is. We deal with it.”
Derulo seemed more annoyed than bent out of shape out of the whole ordeal, but was quick to dismiss it and move on. He did however correct one report when I brought it up: there are 10 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms in that new South Florida pad he purchased; not nine as originally reported.
“The Other Side” singer spent a good amount of 2012 back in Miami, recuperating from a freak-accident in which he broke his neck and almost ended up paralyzed. Derulo is stronger than ever, and it doesn’t look as if he’ll be spending much time in that new home in the near future. He completed production on his new LP last week with a studio session that followed his performance on “America’s Got Talent.”
“I had to finish this one track that I did with The Cataracs,” Derulo noted. “Then that’s it.”
In addition to working with a wide-array of producers including Dr. Luke and RedOne, Derulo also features fellow artists on tracks with the new album, something he’s never done before.
“Jordin is on this album,” he said of his girlfriend Sparks. “We got a nice little sexy track on there.”
Derulo said the song with her is called “Vertigo.” He also revealed collaborations with Pitbull and The Game. Rapper 2 Chainz is featured on the second single for countries outside of the US, “Talk Dirty.”
It certainly isn’t easy spending your career in the limelight, especially in the day of instant reaction on Twitter and instant meme-ification on Tumblr. “The X-Factor” judge Kelly Rowland is well-aware of this.
“Sometimes it’s really hard for me to hide my facial expressions because… it’s hard,” Rowland tried to explain during a chat at the FOX TV Radio Junket for the Television Critic Association Awards. “Sometimes people get up there and you’re like, ‘Oh, why?’”
A Rowland reaction to a male attempting to cover Britney Spears’ “(Hit Me) Baby One More Time” already has the web buzzing. The Destiny Child singer cautioned that she’s already given “a lot of those looks,” but that she is also impressed with a lot of the artists that have auditioned thus far.
“America has some serious talent and people who are really ready and willing to work hard,” Rowland said. “They’re chasing a dream. I know what it’s like to chase a dream.”
Rowland’s fellow judges Demi Lovato, Paulina Rubio, and Simon Cowell also know what it takes to make a dream a reality.
“We’re three women who obviously love music and enjoy being on the panel, and we happen to get along,” Rowland said of her relationship with Lovato and Rubio. “Simon made a good decision. I don’t know if he knew that we’d get along or not, but it feels good that we do.”
Rowland also doesn’t know if Cowell realized he would be essentially pitting himself against three women, but he did.
“We totally team up on Simon,” Rowland admitted. “He gets a little challenge from us.”
Given Cowell’s recent trials and tribulations in the headlines, surely it’s a challenge that he doesn’t mind. The two night season premiere of “The X-Factor” airs this September on FOX.
Not every Taylor Swift relationship ends with a breakup song. Example: Swift’s friendship with Parachute lead singer Will Anderson.
“I don’t know. I honestly don’t,” Anderson responded on “The Ralphie Show” when asked whether he is the subject of a song on her last album Red. The general consensus among some “Swifties” is that he is the “nice guy” the singer speaks of in “Begin Again.” “We don’t really talk about that stuff… we talk about professional stuff. I’ll ask her advice on things but when it comes to what songs are about, we just let those be.”
Anderson just hung out with the songstress last week.
“It’s fun to hang with somebody who does the same thing you do,” he said. “It’s also fun because she can give me advice on anything our band can possibly be going through; she’s already done it. Even though she’s a little bit younger than us, she’s the biggest artist in the world right now.”
Parachute’s next album, Overnight, is complete and due out August 13. Don’t expect any songs on their about Swift.
“She knows better than that,” Anderson said before joking, “She wishes, but no!”
The album’s current single from that album, “Can’t Help,” was co-written by Anderson and Ryan Tedder.
“We originally had CeeLo Green in mind,” the singer revealed. “We said, ‘We can’t give this one away.’”
Tedder didn’t mind. Meanwhile, Anderson never did get a song to Green, but he’s pretty sure “The Voice” coach is “winning in life, so it’s good.”
Following the success of his album + and the breakout singles “The A-Team” and “Lego House,” many people know of Ed Sheeran’s music. Many might also know about Ed’s current summer plans, touring the country with singer Taylor Swift. But for most, that’s where their knowledge of the 22 year-old singer ends.
“No one really knows about my love life,” Sheeran stated with a smirk during his most recent chat on “The Ralphie Show.” “I’ve dated some singers before.”
A recent US Weekly report stated he was “hooking up” with Selena Gomez.
“People don’t always guess right, but sometimes they do (guess correctly),” he said. “I was in a relationship for nine months recently that no one had a clue about; kept that quiet. But, it’s over now so we can talk about it.”
Sheeran was open to chatting about his last girlfriend, who was not a public figure. However at the request of his management, information that could identify her was left out of the interview, with her privacy as the motivating factor.
It isn’t the first time Sheeran’s management or record label has taken issue with a piece of information spilled by the singer – and it probably won’t be the last. Perhaps one of Sheeran’s most enduring qualities is his honesty. This trait was on full display when the platinum-selling artist was asked what he does with all of the plaques he is receiving for his global sales success.
“I have them stacked up in my flat by the door, and people take them as party favors when they come around,” he revealed. “There’s only so many you can put on the wall without looking like a douchebag. I prefer for my friends to be able to celebrate the success as well.”
The forecast looks as if there will be more of that success to celebrate. Sheeran’s album has sold a half-million copies here in the States, and the singer noted that there could be at least two more singles on the way. The next track is already picked.
“I wanted to change up the pace a little bit, because obviously the Taylor Swift single (‘Everything Has Changed’) is coming out, and that’s a slow pace song as well so I think we’re going to come with, “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You,” Sheeran said. “Then we’ll see what happens in the autumn.”
For now, the Englishman finds himself performing these songs in stadiums across the U.S. with Swift. He’s also visited her new $17 million mansion in Watch Hill, RI.
“It’s incredible,” he remarked. “The view’s amazing. The whole town is brilliant.”
Sheeran noted some of the great restaurants in the area, but focused in on one particular business: an ice cream shop.
“There’s a competition that three people have won where there’s this huge plate of ice cream, and if you finish it, you get your picture on a wall,” he explained. “Only three people have done it, and they’re all morbidly obese, and I want to go and just rock that.”
Just telling that story prompted Sheeran to recall his childhood days when he really enjoyed ice cream, and was thus a few pounds heavier. But like most everything else, the singer would rather talk about it than shy away from it.
You could probably guess that Demi Lovato wasn’t going to throw your stereotypical 21st birthday party this August 20. But could you have guessed that Lovato would travel far outside of America to partake in charity work?
“I’m actually going to go to Africa,” Lovato said of her birthday plans. After performing on “Good Morning America” Friday, the singer sat down with “The Ralphie Show” in an interview that aired Monday evening. “I’m just going to do a bunch of charity stuff. I feel the best way to celebrate anyone’s birthday is just giving back and helping others.”
Lovato is quite cognizant of the “typical” celebration for turning 21 years-old, and she seems quite intent on breaking down the stereotype.
“Birthdays are all about celebrating life, and people are very blessed to even make it to 21,” the singer explained. “So the last thing I think anyone should be doing on their birthday is poisoning themselves.”
If you have followed Lovato’s career to this point, the comments aren’t surprising. A Disney starlet who rose to fame touring with the Jonas Brothers and starring on TV, she checked out of entertainment and in to a rehab facility in October 2010 to deal with bipolar disorder and bulimia. The singer returned to the spotlight in the summer of 2011 with “Skyscraper,” an emotional ballad and the lead single from her third studio album Unbroken. That LP yielded the monster hit “Give Your Heart a Break,” and along with her story of hope and perseverance, sent the artist’s career to new heights.
“It still feels like a dream,” Lovato said of her success since leaving rehab. “I don’t think there’s ever one time where I heard my song on the radio that I didn’t get excited. And if I didn’t show it, I was secretly excited inside.”
Lovato is also excited for the success of the people she grew up with in the business: Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus to name a few. She and Gomez have known each other since they were seven years-old, and while they both now deal with the burdens of the spotlight in their 20s, the “Heart Attack” singer doesn’t feel it necessary to offer advice based on her own personal struggles.
“For me personally, I’ve just learned to kind of not pay attention,” Lovato said. “When people call me names or whatever, or they spread rumors, it’s like at the end of the day, my family knows the truth, my friends know the truth, I know the truth, and that’s all that matters.”
Lovato is currently balancing a busy schedule that includes her role as a judge on “The X-Factor” and promoting her latest album Demi. The LP’s next single is “Made in the USA,” and the songstress makes her directorial debut with the music video. Although the piece is finished, no release date has been set yet.
Demi Lovato and her friends are all experiencing a great amount of success in the entertainment business, and she couldn’t be happier for them.
“I’m really, really excited for her,” Lovato responded when asked about Selena Gomez taking over radio airwaves with the hit, “Come and Get It.” “I’m excited for all of the people I’ve grown up with. Everyone that I’ve grown up with, we all have our own path now and it’s really, really great to watch everyone come in to their own.”
The “Heart Attack” singer mentioned Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers by name. Of course, her and Gomez go way back.
“I’ve known (Selena) since I was seven years old,” Lovato said. “It’s funny; we went from being in the back seat of a car with her parents driving us to a radio show to listen to our favorite artists that were on the radio at the time to having songs on the radio.”
Lovato sat down with “The Ralphie Show” following her performance Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The full interview will air Monday evening.
