Archives For black eyed peas

On the last night of Coachella’s first weekend, headlining act David Guetta had a little surprise in store for the crowd. The superstar DJ staged a reunion of all four Black Eyed Peas members, who performed the worldwide smash “I Gotta Feeling” following the premiere of a new BEP/Guetta track called, “This Is Awesome.”

Last June on “Ralphie Tonight,” Apl.De.Ap talked about taking the stage again with Will.I.Am and Taboo for a benefit concert in Los Angeles, and the fact that The Peas were still under a record deal with Interscope.

The rumor at the moment is that BEP will release something later this year around the band’s twentieth anniversary.

At the turn of the New Year Black Eyed Peas founding emcee Will.I.Am. tweeted that in 2015, BEP would return with new music. However if you’re seeking for new music from the quartet, look no further than Apl.de.Ap. The artist has kept busy since The Peas’ hiatus through charity work, his record label, and filming “The Voice” back in The Philippines. Apl is also working on a solo album and dropped the first single in January.

“Be” features Canadian-Cambodian rapper Honey Cocaine and singer Jessica Reynoso, who was on Apl’s team during season one of “The Voice PH.” Parts of the music video were filmed in Manhattan and Brooklyn last October.

“It’s about really being yourself,” Apl said of the track when we caught up with him during the video’s production at PH-D Rooftop Lounge atop The Dream Downtown Hotel in New York’s Chelsea district. “Sometimes in the music business you’re always trying to conform in a music genre. In the history of the Black Eyed Peas we’ve gone through different music genres… at the end of the day, you always go back to who you really be.”

For Apl – that’s hip-hop, evident in both his and Honey’s verses. Reynoso’s vocals on super-catchy hook add a nice touch to the song.

“Be” serves as the first single from the forthcoming AP3, due out this year. Just between his charitable efforts, “The Voice,” and the various music projects he is attached to, Apl is already set for a busy 2015.

But the Filipino surely is also looking forward to this May, when his fellow countryman Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao takes on Floyd “Money” Mayweather in Las Vegas. If his music endeavors are as fortuitous as his boxing predictions, then it should be a great year for the emcee; Apl told me last October he believed the two would eventually get in the ring to give the fans the fight they’ve been asking for.

Fergie called in to “Ralphie Tonight” to chat about a number of different topics – from the music video to her latest single “L.A.LOVE (la la)” to the deadline for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Plus we talked holidays – as Fergie gets ready for Christmas with husband Josh Duhamel and Axl, and as she readies for a return to the stage as a co-host and performer at this year’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

I caught an exclusive look at the filming of Apl.De.Ap’s music video for his song “Be,” which will be on iTunes November 28. The track serves as the first single from his forthcoming solo album. “Be” features Honey Cocaine. The final scenes for the video were shot at PhD Rooftop Nightclub inside Dream Downtown in New York.

Apl also gave his thoughts on whether a Manny Pacquiao/Floyd Mayweather fight will ever happen, Fergie’s new song, and Will.I.Am’s new wearable device during his chat for “Ralphie Tonight.”

Apl.De.Ap of The Black Eyed Peas stopped by “Ralphie Tonight” and talked about the efforts with his foundation to help rebuild The Philippines following last year’s typhoon.

Apl also gave an update on his music projects and revealed that the Black Eyed Peas still have a couple of albums to release.

Shout out to ADAM FROM KIDD KRADDICK IN THE MORNING for helping out on this… because every song IS NOT by The Black Eyed Peas… you’re welcome.

A great song by my friends Black Eyed Peas – it rises to a new level when you watch this video, which was shot in Japan a week before the tsunami hit.

My favorite track off of The Beginning, in stores now.

Deadmau5 was careful not to “call The Black Eyed Peas out” – but used a number of descriptions and graphics on Facebook to compare the snare and kick of “The Time” with a remix he produced of Medina’s “You and I.”

The DJ didn’t look at the two tracks until fans on Twitter asked about the similarities. Deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, posted graphics of the snare and kick graphics to his Facebook page, with his track as the top wavelength and “The Time” on the bottom.

This comes as The Peas ready to release The Beginning, which hits stores Tuesday.

Deadmau5 added that he enjoys “the minimal bit of the tune” and considers this case interesting given that it is another example of sampling use within electronic music, something that the producer claims is not only prevalent, but welcomed.

Track is called “The Time” – first single from the group’s forthcoming LP The Beginning, which drops November 30.

LOVE IT.
