Another award show, another night poised to center around music’s biggest name: Taylor Swift.

As details about this year’s American Music Awards continue to be revealed, the inescapable number is 6. That is the number of nominations that Swift scored this year, and if she sweeps, the “Wildest Dreams” singer will have more AMAs than any other artist ever.

Keep in mind that the award show was created by Dick Clark back in 1973. The AMAs are 16 years older than Swift, who as I’m sure you’re well aware of by now, was born in 1989.

I asked Charlie Puth, who is up for two AMAs this year thanks to “See You Again,” what makes Swift so successful.

“She knows her brand so well,” he told me at the ABC Good Morning America studio in Times Square, shortly after revealing nominations on GMA. “When she brings all of the artists to go perform with her on her show, there’s no guessing. She knows exactly where everybody is supposed to stand. She just knows the stage very, very well.”

Puth is referring to the number of A-list cameos that have taken place during Swift’s “1989 World Tour,” which is continuing to headline and sell out stadiums and arenas across the country.

“She knows exactly what she wants to hear in her music, and her fans want to hear the same thing,” continued Puth, even admitting that he feels his ability to so acutely breakdown Swift’s success sounds a bit “stalker-ish,” but he is a big fan of her work.

Thankfully for the Rumson, N.J. native, he will only have to battle Swift head-to-head in one of the two categories he is up for. Wiz Khalifa and Puth’s “See You Again” is nominated for “Song of the Year” with “Blank Space.” The “Furious 7” track is also in the running for “Collaboration of the Year,” unleashed by T-Mobile.

“I don’t even know what to say,” was Puth’s response when I brought up the two nominations, including one in a major category for the show. “I never thought this would happen to me. It’s such an honor to be a part of the song with Wiz.”

The duo performed the track in May at the Billboard Music Awards in what proved to be a learning experience for the 23 year-old.

“My one piece of Charlie advice to myself would be, ‘Charlie, don’t get so star struck the moment you start playing the piano,’ because I saw all of the Kardashians just lined up and I was like, ‘Oh!’” he recalled. “I kind of messed up because I got so star struck.”

No word if Puth will perform at The AMAs; Carrie Underwood, Selena Gomez and 5 Seconds Of Summer have been confirmed for the show in Los Angeles. Jennifer Lopez will also perform in addition to hosting the festivities, which will air live on ABC Sunday night November 22 at 8 p.m.

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are still friends, despite what you may have read, regardless of its accuracy.

Let’s rewind to June of 2013 when I spoke with Lovato following her “Good Morning America” performance in Central Park. At the time, Gomez was experiencing a career-high in radio airplay with the single, “Come And Get It.”

“I’m really, really excited for (Gomez),” Lovato told me. “And I’m excited for all of the people I’ve grown up with… Selena especially because I’ve known her since I was seven years old.”

A lot can change in two years: chart positions, relationship statuses, hair colors… and much did. So it makes sense that in a recently released interview with Complex, Lovato had changed her tone on the relationship she shares with Gomez.

“But, you know, when you’re young and you get older, you change and people change,” she said after clarifying that the distance that grew between the two former Disney stars had nothing to do anymore with Justin Bieber. “You have things in common, and then all of a sudden, you don’t. It’s just a part of life.”

But it didn’t make sense, at least not to fans of Lovato and Gomez, who saw the two pose for a selfie on Instagram just a few weeks ago.

Were they no longer friends after that selfie? Was Demi throwing shade at Selena? Was the “Cool For The Summer” singer misquoted?

According to a tweet posted on Wednesday by Lovato, none of the above.

“Interviews are done months and months before the issue is published. I lot (sic) can change between then and now,” she wrote. “Don’t read into the bullsh–.”

Or rather, read it knowing that at first it was accurate but at the present moment it may no longer be.

A couple of pop radio staples released new singles on Monday to their eager fan bases.

After months of rumors and Instagram photos, the world finally got to hear the single that DJ/producer Zedd and Selena Gomez collaborated on. While speculation ran rampant over their personal relationship, there is no doubt that the duo can combine to create a hit record in the studio. Zedd, nee Anton Zaslavski, is billed as the title artist on “I Want You To Know,” with Gomez as the feature. OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder told Billboard that he wrote the single and gave it to Zedd.

Monday also marked the return of FUN. lead singer Nate Ruess. The front man is working on a solo album and unveiled “Nothing Without Love” as the first single.

“I remember taking a trip upstate to finish the lyrics,” Ruess wrote on Facebook, “and returning thinking that I’d finally been able to say everything I’d ever been feeling in that moment, and it’s applied to my life in so many different ways ever since.”

Ruess calls it his favorite song that he’s written. No other details on his solo effort are available yet.

Friday was Day 1 of “Ralphie Tonight” broadcasting live from Westwood One’s “Red Carpet Radio” at the 2014 “American Music Awards” in Los Angeles. The first day of the broadcast came with its usual shenanigans and a few pleasant surprises.

Among those things that we weren’t expecting – Selena Gomez showing off her selfie skills, Colbie Caillat telling us about her new home, and Charli XCX revealing that she has some AMA surprises in store for Sunday.

Remember when Selena Gomez broke down in tears on stage during her “Stars Dance” tour stop at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn last year?

Do you think that’s what she is addressing at the start of her new music video for “The Heart Wants What It Wants”?
