EXCLUSIVE: Cody Simpson Says Thanks, But No Thanks, To ‘Australian-Bieber’ Comparison

Cody Simpson wants you to know something: he isn’t “The Australian Justin Bieber.”

“I’m not really, I mean… first of all, I’m Cody Simpson,” the 13 year-old clarified on “The Ralphie Radio Show.” “I’m a big fan of Justin and I love his music.”

The Aussie is certainly aware of the reasons behind the comparisons: both “tween” heartthrobs, both pop singers, both discovered on YouTube. And while Simpson continues to distinguish himself from “The Bieber” – he is still flattered to be mentioned in the conversation.

“He’s been so successful with what he’s been doing,” Simpson said. “To even have like, half the success he’s had would be incredible.”

Surely the Australian teenager is well on his way: Simpson is already creating quite the stir internationally – winning an award and performing at the Nickelodeon Teen Choice Awards back in his home country. Now in the States, he has embarked on a multi-faceted promotional tour which includes stops at radio stations, local music stores, and middle schools.

“We’re all really proud of him,” said Simpson’s father Brad, who has accompanied Cody on his U.S. promo run. “As long as he keeps having fun (and) keeps his feet on the ground.”

The father and the team assembled around the teen manage the latter in a number of different ways: Mr. Simpson joked that he still has Cody on an allowance – and there’s a policy amongst Simpson’s camp: every fan gets at least one photo and one autograph, time permitting.

Simpson’s first single is called “Iy Iy Iy” and features Flo Rida. His debut album is due out early next year.
