my source tells me that the friday before the vma’s, employees at island def jam music group were informed kanye west would perform “love lockdown” on the awards show, and that the song would be released to radio the following tuesday. the track would serve as kanye’s first single for his forthcoming LP, “808’s and Heartbreaks” – due out sometime in november.
kanye performed the song sunday to rave reviews, however the following monday, pulled a 180 on idjmg, saying the song was too “out there” for a first single.
despite this, radio stations – including bht – are spinning the track anyways.
