INTERVIEW: ‘Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro Sets Timetable for Carlo’s Bake Shop Expansion

The “Cake Boss” brand is growing – and although the cash flow seems to be also be growing, celebrity cake baker Buddy Valastro feels bad for his fans that the lines outside of Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken, NJ are also extending with it.

“I would love to facilitate everybody, but a lot of people want that experience, as crazy as it sounds,” Valastro said before a tribute dinner to Regis Philbin at Mohegan Sun’s 15th anniversary in Uncasville, CT. Of course, the “Cake Boss” presented Philbin with a cake designed to look like a television. “I think (the lines are) part of the allure, so, we’re doing some things to try to change that a little bit, so that we can facilitate a little better. Hopefully within a year, we’ll be all set.”

After I questioned what he intends to do specifically, Valastro confirmed that he was referring to his plans to expand Carlo’s current location in Hoboken. The “Cake Boss” just opened a 50,000 square foot factory in Jersey City, and there are rumors of future Carlo’s Bake Shop locations in the northern New Jersey area. In conjunction with TLC, Valastro launched Cake Boss Café, a mini bake shop/souvenir store dedicated to the TV show in Discovery Times Square, an exhibit space in midtown Manhattan. The site opened this past May.
