Florence Welch Compares Hearing Her Songs On The Radio To Being Seen Naked

Florence Welch’s collaboration with DJ Calvin Harris for the track “Sweet Nothing” is certainly a departure from her work with Florence + The Machine. Still it seems Welch is enjoying her foray in to the Electronic Dance Music world.

“I’ve always loved the remixes of things,” she told me. “It’s almost like (the remix) frees you from (the song).”

Welch contrasted it with her own songs, which are so personal to her that it’s sometimes hard to share them with say, radio stations.

“It’s like someone seeing you naked or something,” Welch said of exposing her lyrics to the masses. “It’s exposing. With a remix, you can enjoy from almost an outside perspective. I loved hearing what (Harris) did with my vocal.”

In addition to the original song, Harris did remix Florence + The Machine’s “Spectrum (Say My Name).” Welch admitted that she’s “in to the euphoria of dance music,” and with “Sweet Nothing” now climbing up the radio airplay charts, perhaps this is the start of her becoming more comfortable with revealing her emotions in music to an even larger audience.
