Archives For carly rae jepsen

On WBRE’s “PA Live!” for this week’s “The Ralphie Report,” I talked about my interview with Foster the People lead singer Mark Foster, played the new song from Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen, and reported on the reunion of 98 Degrees!

I know, there’s the obvious and near-obligatory, “Did Adam call Carly, maybe?” Maybe. Regardless, this is one of Adam Young’s best and certainly most radio-friendly tracks since his breakout tune “Fireflies.”

He and Jepsen receive co-billing on the track, so perhaps we can expect this on both Owl City’s The Midsummer Station in August and Jepsen’s worldwide LP due out this fall. If this becomes a hit, I suppose this officially strips Jepsen out of the “one hit wonder” category.

Fascinating stuff… have you ever heard of an earworm? Recently two seperate studies were done on the phenomena in music psychology that causes our brain to involuntarily throw songs with no meaning to us on an infinite loop.

I know, this is crazy… but here’s my number… sorry, couldn’t help it.

Rebecca Black is back in the news, and this time it is not for her music. Entertainment reporter Jill Wilderman talked about Black’s recent endorsement of a controversial Mexican political figure.

Wilderman also discussed Justin Bieber’s upcoming “Believe” tour, which will also feature opening act Carly Rae Jepsen.

First, she meets the guy. Then she gives him her number and infamously says, “Call me maybe.” Fast forward to the end of the track, and Carly Rae Jepsen now terribly misses the guy she just met. But no, Jepsen insists she isn’t some crazy “stage 5 clinger.”

“Well, I time-travel in my song,” Jepsen joked in an interview that aired Wednesday night on “The Ralphie Radio Show.” “’Before you came in to my life, I missed you so bad,’ makes absolutely no sense unless you felt it, which is the guy that I wrote that about. There was a feeling that something was missing, then he came in to my life and I was like, ‘Oh, you were the thing I missed.’”

By the way, in the wake of “Call Me Maybe,” things worked out quite well for Jepsen: she calls the guy who inspired the single her boyfriend.

“Every time [‘Call Me Maybe’] comes on he’s like, ‘That’s my song!’” Jepsen said. “It worked out ok.”

But, Jepsen said the song was never actually intended to court her lover – rather she simply just wanted to write a fun song about “playing Cupid.”

“I’ve never actually asked a guy for his number that way,” the singer revealed. “I do have, kind of like a spontaneous part of my personality that comes out every once in a while. I did a kiss-and-run once.”

Yes, exactly how it sounds. Jepsen ran up to a guy, planted one on him, and sprinted away. Not sure if one would classify that as “playing Cupid,” but spontaneous nonetheless. The singer was quick to clarify that the mark was not her boyfriend; however it happened before the two started dating.

While Jepsen didn’t say if her new-found fame impacted her relationship, she did note that she is having fun living her hectic schedule.

“I don’t think I could be going at this pace if I wasn’t enjoying it,” Jepsen noted. Just two days before taping the interview in Philadelphia, the singer performed in Las Vegas at the Billboard Music Awards. “It’s the adrenaline and the rush of having so many things that I love doing that kind of keeps me through the days where I’ve only slept a couple hours. It’s totally worth it.”

Jepsen’s schedule looks pretty filled through the end of the year. She is currently working on a full-length album that will be released worldwide this fall. The project will coincide with Jepsen’s support of Justin Bieber’s “Believe” tour. The Canadian singers will perform 44 dates across North America from September through January 2013. Jepsen also confirmed that her LP will include a collaboration with Bieber.

This is the second single and title track from the EP Carly Rae Jepsen released in her native Canada. That same compilation also contains the super-hit, “Call Me Maybe.” I doubt this will be her second single in the States, but up north it is doing quite well on the charts.

Carly Rae Jespen x Flo Rida x Chris Brown x Gotye = one of the best mashups you will hear this summer. But wait, there’s more! Use the Soundcloud link below to download the track for free!

Jepsen is fortunate enough to be working with Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber. The Biebs along with Big Time Rush, Ashley Tisdale, and Selena Gomez appear in this impromptu lip sync video that has gone viral with the track.
